TIS is a proud member of the Kanto Plain Association for Secondary Schools (KPASS). This partnership is central to our Upper School experience, allowing students to challenge their abilities through direct collaboration and competition with peers from across the greater Tokyo area. Our participation is guided by our belief in excellence, we emphasize the commitment to trying your best for the good of the team or group, developing friendships, sportsmanship, and perseverance towards a common goal. KPASS provides a powerful platform for students to grow as leaders and reflective team members.
As part of the KPASS Sports League, TIS students deepen their physical skills and apply their fitness learning in authentic competitive settings. At various times of the year, TIS offers competitive teams across Cross Country, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, and Track & Field.
Our students apply intellectual skills and knowledge in high-paced, competitive academic challenges hosted through KPASS. These events encourage quick thinking, teamwork, and specialized learning, extending the rigor of our classroom environment.
Key competitions include the Model UN Club (MUN), where students engage in diplomacy and formal debate to address global issues; the Math Field Day; and the Brain Bowl, which tests rapid-fire knowledge application. We are proud to host the Middle School Brain Bowl event, welcoming students from across the KPASS network. These experiences are invaluable for preparing students for advanced academic settings and fostering global awareness.
Beyond the sports field, KPASS provides critical platforms for creative expression and cross-cultural understanding. TIS students engage in specialized Fine Arts clubs and activities, working closely with peers from other schools to organize and participate in major events.
These showcases allow students to apply skills learned in the classroom to a wider audience. Key events include the annual Drama Festival, the Choral Festival, and the visual arts showcase, Artscape, where creativity and collaboration are celebrated.
Tokyo International School is a non profit school, which is accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
