Our Sports and Activities Programme is a vibrant extension of school life, featuring a rich mix of activities run by our dedicated academic staff and specialized outside providers to ensure a true range of options for every student.
This robust program provides a powerful platform for well-being, teamwork, and leadership development. These CCAs ensure every student is active and pursues diverse interests after the academic day. The program is Meaningful (teaching transferable skills), Inclusive (welcoming all students), and Holistic (balancing mind and body).
The foundation of our after-school program rests on the Physical Health Education (PHE) curriculum. This includes the Lower School’s PSPE (Personal, Social and Physical Education) curriculum, which builds physical literacy and foundational movement skills through play. CCAs offer the chance to apply and specialize those skills, moving from the fundamentals learned during the school day to authentic competition and specialized practice. This commitment helps turn fitness into a lifelong habit.
These programs focus on engagement, skill development, and exploration for our youngest learners (K-G5):
Multi Sports: Offers a flexible way to sample various games and stay active without the commitment of a league.
Introductory Team & Movement: Includes foundational skills in Futsal and Basketball, supporting basic team dynamics.
Wellness & Discipline: Programs like Yoga, Tae Kwon Do and Aikido introduce students to movement control, focus, and self-discipline.
Rock Climbing: Utilizes our dedicated facilities to teach basic safety, strength, and problem-solving skills in a fun environment.
These activities support advanced skill acquisition, fitness, and outdoor challenge for older students:
Team & Court Sports: Students enjoy team dynamics in Futsal and Basketball, or focus on quick reflexes in Table Tennis and Badminton.
Fitness & Discipline: We support advanced skill acquisition and disciplined training through Tae Kwon Do, and specialized training and physical conditioning.
Outdoor Education & Adventure: The program emphasizes Outdoor Education through activities like hiking, snow shoe walking, and camping, giving students essential skills in teamwork, navigation, and environmental awareness. Rock Climbing also provides advanced challenges.
Our activities focus on developing citizenship, practical leadership, and specialized interests outside of physical movement.
Exploration & Hobbies: Clubs allow students to pursue specialized interests and skills not covered in core academics. This includes Chess and Video Making Club.
Service and Leadership: Our focus on Service and Leadership helps students develop civic responsibility and initiative. The Kids-4-Kids service club provides a vital platform for students to practice real-world communication and project management by planning and executing fundraising events for chosen charities.
We utilize our high-quality, dedicated facilities to support a diverse and comprehensive PHE curriculum:
Our students have access to an indoor gymnasium equipped for team sports like basketball and volleyball, an outdoor track and field space, and specialized equipment for sports like gymnastics. We also feature a rock climbing wall to challenge students in areas of strength, balance, and problem-solving.
The clubs listed are examples that rotate seasonally (Fall, Winter, Spring). With our exciting transition to the new TAKANANA GATEWAY CAMPUS next year, the program will evolve to utilize the new facilities and deliver fresh, tailored activities designed for the next phase of the TIS experience.
Tokyo International School is a non profit school, which is accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
We are a fully authorized, International Baccalaureate World School, catering for students from Kindergarten 1 (four years old) to Grade 8 (fourteen years old).
